Oakland and the San Francisco Bay Area has long been a hotspot for food enthusiasts, boasting a diverse range of culinary options that cater to every palate. There’s no shortage of high-level, Michelin-starred restaurants of all varieties.
But there's something particularly exciting brewing in the heart of the Bay Area, and that’s coming from the emerging highlight restaurant Burdell. Located at 4640 Telegraph Avenue in Oakland's vibrant Temescal neighborhood, the restaurant is open from 5pm to 9pm Wednesday-Sunday. Burdell brings modern soul food to life under the watchful eye of acclaimed local chef, Geoff Davis.
Before Burdell's brick-and-mortar inception, Davis graced the kitchens of some of the Bay Area's most revered fine dining establishments, including Michelin-starred haunts like Cyrus and Aqua. Davis introduced Burdell as a pop-up. The acclaim was instant, setting the stage for its permanent residence, where it now stands as a great new Bay Area spot.
The soul food at Burdell takes a traditional approach and combines it with Burdell’s fine dining experience. This creates a unique vibe to the meals that’s reportedly unmatched in quality and ambiance. Soul food is an important part of American history and the resilience and skill of African-American chefs throughout the eras.
The full-featured menu features a family-style many for the whole table at $65 per guest with curated beverage pairings for $40+. Food such as Chicken Liver and Waffle, Slow Cooked Lamb Ribs, and Okra Stew bring fantastic flavors and hefty portions to the table. Also don’t forget to grab desserts such as Oatmeal Date Cookies and Devil’s Food Cake.
When in Oakland, ensure you make a reservation at Burdell and indulge in the soul-stirring culinary experience.
