Camping and Picnicking
For those looking to extend their stay, Portola Redwoods State Park offers 55 family campsites, four group campsites, and a few hike-in sites for backpackers. The campground is equipped with restrooms, showers, and potable water. Campsites are nestled among redwoods, providing a peaceful setting for a night under the stars. Reservations are recommended, especially during peak season.
Picnic areas are scattered throughout the park, offering the perfect spot to enjoy a meal surrounded by nature. Bear boxes are available to store food and keep wildlife at bay.
The park is home to a variety of wildlife, including black-tailed deer, raccoons, and the elusive bobcat. Birdwatchers can spot species like the Steller’s jay, woodpeckers, and owls. The park’s creeks are habitats for steelhead trout and Pacific giant salamanders. The flora is equally diverse, with various ferns, wildflowers, and, of course, the towering redwoods.
